You can Name a Park in Helsingborg!

Updated: Oct 6, 2020

One of the great things about living in Helsingborg is the small ways you as a resident can get involved. Be it helping out others in times of crisis or by getting city funding for your own project.

Now you can contribute with your ideas for the upcoming new congress facility called SeaU, which will be ready in 2021 if everything according to plan. You can actually see the timeline of this construction here -

Between SeaU and The Tivoli, a new park is being built for both play and events. The park will include a lot of space not just for lunch, picnics, play but also for hosting events. The last part before SeaU is entirely ready is this upcoming park.

Now, the city needs your help in naming this park.

Exciting, isn’t it? Read on to know how you can send in your suggestions. Send in your ideas no later than 19th October along with why you think it is the right name for the park.

  1. Facebook post - Click here to reach the city’s Facebook post, where they are collecting name suggestions for the park. Simply comment, and keep your fingers crossed. It would be quite cool to have your name selected for the city!

  2. Instagram post - You can also leave a comment on their Instagram post. Click here to reach the post.

  3. If you do not want to give your suggestion in public, you can also call the Kontakt Center on 042-10 50 00 or send an email to

Some guidelines and things to look out for when you think of a name:

  • The names must follow accepted language rules and be easy to perceive, pronounce and write.

  • When naming people (memorial names), the person in question must be deceased and should also have a connection to the place.

  • Think long term!

  • When naming areas, it is ideal to find a theme that is connected to the site.

What is the process of selection?

After the deadline, all the names are compiled for a jury with representatives from Helsingborgs Stad. The task of the jury is to present a name proposal which will then be further submitted to the city planning committee. (Stadsbyggnadsnämnden). The jury will meet twice in November, and the name will finally be up for decision in early 2021.
