“I have a terrible sense of direction. But I was able to get my bearings in Helsingborg quickly because it is such a walkable city.
Trying to find a place to work was tricky at first. I love working in cafes (What's Up 2 Sisters!) but needed somewhere to these endless virtual meetings so needed an office. I ended up at Mindpark which is a godsend. Nicest people who have become friends.
What helped me adjust here? Going to the beach in the summer in surviving. It was like a right of passage. Also going to a screening at Doc Lounge. I connected with movie-loving culture at a time when theatres were not exactly recommended venues.
Helsingborg to me is a source of new inspiration.”

"How do you get to know where to throw the garbage? No one explained this to me, so me and my boyfriend ended up carrying out the trash to the closest recycling point at Söder until we got to know where the trash room was and how to get in there. 😄
Helsingborg is my true home. It gave me the best friends I could ever dream about and made me feel more at home than anywhere else ever before."

“I have so many wonderful memories from the years living in Helsingborg. I moved here when I was 15 years old and since day one, this has been my home.
As a newcomer, I decided to start collecting places that meant a little extra to me. Over the years, the places have become many. My top three places are; The beach in Domsten, a hot summer day with beach toys, playing in the water with happy children and eating egg sandwiches.
Another favorite place is the café Brödkultur in Laröd. I love spending early mornings here, drinking coffee and answering the first email of the day.
A third favorite place is the Pålsjö forest. Feeding the ducks, taking a walk or collecting sticks and stones with my children are awesome.
I am so grateful to live in a city with so many magical places. Helsingborg to me is home.”

"The most challenging thing, since I moved to Helsingborg more than six years ago, is that I have to do everything myself, from a physical perspective. Such as walking to the supermarket and carrying the groceries back, climbing the hill and up the stairs to the 4th floor.
I am a typical couch potato and a person who appreciate comfort and laziness. I used to complain a lot about how buildings lack elevators. I thought It would've made my life easier.
Over the years, I started to notice the benefit of all these physical activities. I lost weight, became in better shape, and my outfit size was getting smaller. So, I was motivated to add physical activities into my daily routine. Instead of going to work by car, I chose to walk. I even got a little enthusiastic and bought a bike which eventually got stolen."

"Although I'm 100 % Swedish and was also born in Helsingborg, I did not know anyone apart from close family relatives when moving back here after many years of living overseas. But, as a seasoned ex-pat with 9 international moves as a family of 6, I used my networking skills to find a positive path and now have a super network of friends, work colleagues and more!
Sprung from a "Kitchen Table Conference" together with Sally Russell, we created HIC, Helsingborg International Connections in order to help more global citizens discover this beautiful city, also known as the "Pearl of the Sound". Apart from co-creating HIC and seeing if flourish, I am super grateful to hold a role focusing on digitalisation, communication, collaboration and sustainability at Öresundskraft.
An unexpected challenge on moving back here was not being as "Swedish" as prior to leaving Sweden, having personal references from far and beyond, as well as a CV looking like a Swedish "Pytt i Panna" (Google it if you are not familiar with this classic dish). Tip: make good use of LinkedIn to collect experiences relevant to the project/job you are looking for." 🙂

"I moved to Helsingborg for studies. I think being active in student life has been fundamental for me being a part of Helsingborg, and still being here. I both met a lot of great people (most that did not study the same as I did, but something else at the Uni), and those people are still those I have the most contact with in Helsingborg. Most had moved here for studies, just as I, so almost everyone was new to the city. That helped a lot in creating lasting connections, as everyone was open to forming new friendships - something that is quite hard in Sweden the older you get.
Helsingborg to me is home."

"I moved back to Helsingborg and one weekend I had nothing to do so I went outside (I lived in Järnvägsgatan) and took the first bus to the end stop and walked back. It took me to the place I grew up when I was little so I got to see it for the first time in 20 years. I was filled with the feeling that there were so many new opportunities in my new life here.
Joining Helltown Hellcats - Helsingborg Roller Derby Club, buying my koloni and also through the job I have, helped me establish a brand new social network.

"Finding accommodation before my personnummer was granted was a challenge. Applying for pre-school was another struggle. I didn't know that it will take 4 months.
But asking help from anyone that I could reach out to helped me adjust here. Walking alongside the beach in Råå is our family routine, and it helps us to break from the overwhelming newcomer situation."

"My martial arts club Kaisho Kampsport helped me make a lot of new friends in town. An unexpected struggle was to start my own company - Mindkicker, through which I was able to overcome the challenge of employment.
Helsingborg for me is a place for creating memories and experiences. A great memory I think of is when we moved from Malmö downtown to Fleninge in the countryside."
